A Portrait of a Talk School Graduate

What our students leave Talk with.

Not every child stays at Talk until they're 21. Some do. Others build what they need here and move on to a different school when they're ready, both as ultimate successes. However long a child is with us, there are a few things we hope stick, long after they've left.

Talk School graduates are:

Confident and Courageous

People who believe in themselves. Over their time at Talk, they get better at understanding themselves and pick up the self-management skills that help them do more on their own, at whatever pace works for them.

Proficient Communicators

People who can reach for whatever tool helps them get their point across, spoken words, a device, gesture, or writing, and use it to ask for what they need and speak up for themselves when it counts.

Helpful Contributors

Graduates who know who they are and what they're worth. They understand what they bring to a classroom, a family, and the people around them, and they carry that with them wherever they go next.

Community-minded

Those who notice the people around them and go looking for connection. They've built the skills to make friends and keep them, whether that's with classmates, family, or the new people they meet.

Age 28

Because of Talk, Rachel learned how to write, read and speak with understanding!

The Talk School and Staff hold a special place in our hearts. Doctors from a local children's hospital predicted she would not do any of these things...but they were so wrong! Talk believed in Rachel and her potential. Rachel would not have the life she has today without having attended Talk. She is a confident, working young woman! She works 5 days a week at an adult workshop, Handi-crafters. We are so proud of her!  More importantly, she is so proud of herself! Rachel beems when she brings her paycheck home. Her sense of acceptance and self-worth is largely due to the wonderful, practical education she received at Talk.

Age 22

From struggling to speak to NYU Stern, and now a Master’s in Finance.

The Talk School gave me the ability to speak and helped shape the person I am today. I was very young, but I still remember my first real friend, Nathan, whom I met there. Talk taught me how to communicate with my classmates, build friendships, and become more comfortable around others. I recently graduated from NYU Stern, where I studied Finance and Data Science, and I’m now pursuing a Master’s in Finance at Fordham. Looking back, it means a lot to see how far I have come.
